Mum 'blown away' by kind gesture after strangers asked about her son's leukaemia

A mum has said she was 'blown away' by the kind gesture of a stranger in a restaurant where she was eating with her three children and a friend.

Sarah-Jane Fryc was at Pancakes On The Rocks in western Sydney when her table was approached by a couple and their young daughter.

The family were curious to know what was wrong with her two-year-old son Eden, who uses a feeding tube and has lost most of his hair due to his treatment for leukaemia.

Sarah-Jayne told them about the illness and explained that they have been away from home since July 2019, spending the last year at a children's hospital as part of Eden's battle against cancer.

The mum said the family left shortly afterwards while she was feeding one of her twin daughters and her friend went to the counter to settle the bill.

“When she came back she said the bill had already been looked after," said Sarah-Jayne. "The lovely people we were talking to had paid for our food."

Eden's mum never got the chance to thank the parents, who didn't tell her they had done it, and she hoped sharing the story on social media would help them see her gratitude, as reported by News.com.au.

"It really pulled at the heart strings because we have had a lot going on this past year and it's made me realise there’s still lovely people out there who don’t do things like this as often anymore," she said.

Eden has spent a year in hospital, and the family have stayed at Ronald McDonald House and the Leukemia Foundation during his treatment.

The day after the heartwarming gesture, Sarah-Jayne and her family were "finally" able to return home. Eden is currently in remission and is "doing a lot better."

“It really made my day and made me feel a lot better especially after being away from home for so long – it was such a good way to leave on a good note," she said. "Thank you to those kind people - after a s***ty year it was really what I needed."
