Mum blown away after 'polite and lovely' boys help son, 5, in park

A mum had her 'faith in humanity restored' after a group of boys helped her 5-year-old son in the park.

The boys, who Charlotte Hawthorn believes are around 12-years-old, gave a helping hand to her son Rory after the chain broke on his bike.

The Merseyside mum said the boys rushed to help her son in Central Park in Wallasey on Monday, July 26.

The 28-year-old told the ECHO that the youngsters then worked on his bike for around 45 minutes.

She said: "It has restored my faith in humanity.

“He was playing on his bike when he complained it was stuck. He got off and I had a brief look but I know nothing about bikes.

“There were some lads close by on bikes looking around age 12 and I suggested asking the boys to see if they could help.

“They came over immediately, all four of them were literally on the floor trying to sort it.

“It was really sweet. ‘We've done this before’ one of them said. They all encouraged each other and I kept saying ‘aww don’t worry boys if you can’t do it, it’s absolutely fine.’ "

Charlotte said she was 'gutted' she didn't have her purse with her as she wanted to give them some money. However Rory insisted he ‘pay’ them in cookies.

She added: “Their hands were getting absolutely filthy so I gave them baby wipes. I didn’t have my purse on me which I was gutted about, as I would have given them a few quid.

“I did however happen to have an unopened pack of cookies and my five year old said 'excuse me, can we pay you in cookies please?' they laughed and agreed.

“They spent the next ten minutes trying and they just couldn’t do it. But honestly, my friend and I were chatting to them and saying how teens get a bad name, and they were honestly just lush.

“They were like a breath of fresh air. So polite and lovely and so nice to see them all working together.”

Charlotte said she wanted the parents to know what “lovely young boys” they have raised.

She added: “They should be very proud of how their children behave when they’re not around.”

Posting to Facebook, she said: “They were so lovely, so polite and well mannered.

“Teenagers can get such a bad rep sometimes, but these four were just lovely.

“I got their names so hopefully they get a bit of extra credit. Kelechi, Peter, Kai and Lucas.”
