Mum blasts school photographer charging to airbrush photos of pupils aged eight

Looking back through old school photos can be hilarious and embarrassing in equal measure as we all go through the awkward stages which are part and parcel of growing up.

All that could be about to change after one furious mum hit out at a school photographer who offered two more expensive 'retouching' options for her eight-year-old's photo day.

Sam Walker, a Brit living in Arizona, shared a photo of her daughter's school photo price list which offers 'basic retouching', promising to remove blemishes, and 'premium retouching', which is described as 'basic plus whitens teeth and evens skin tone'.

It offered 'basic' and 'premium' retouching options (@WalkerSam /Twitter)

The mum-of-two, who moved to the United States from the UK earlier this year, said in her tweet : "The girls have their school photo today and there is the option to AIRBRUSH the picture!

"There are two levels offered!! What the....?! Have complained! What eight-year-old needs to be paranoid about an 'uneven skin tone'."

The post sparked a huge reaction from fellow parents, gaining 2,700 retweets and more than 11,000 likes.

One said: "That is genuinely shocking. I mean seriously. With the mental health crisis kids are facing they don’t need this kind of message.

Others stuck up for the photographer (Getty Images/iStockphoto)

"I love the fact my kids’ school pictures are generally awful. Isn’t that the whole point?"

A second wrote: "Absolutely horrific. Is a school condoning this by using the company??"

Another hinted that their own child's photo had been edited without their permission, saying: "We got my daughter's school photo back when she was 6. She’d been airbrushed! Looked like she had makeup on."

Others stuck up for the photographer, arguing: "I had severe acne in middle school. I begged my mum to do the retouch every year and she finally gave in.

"That was my favorite school picture. So, no it's not needed for an 8 year old, but keep in mind, this company takes pictures of older kids too."
