Mum blasted for letting young son play in the garden at 'unacceptable' time

A mum has been slammed after letting her children play in the garden first thing in the morning - as others have said it's 'too early'.

Taking to parenting forum Mumsnet, the woman said that her son was 'on one' and she had to let him burn off some energy, so suggested he play in the garden.

But this was at 8.30am and her partner said that was a bad idea, as it would make them 'those neighbours', but the mother wasn't so sure.

She asked other parents for their advice and soon she was slammed, as they all said they had a rule where they wouldn't let their children outside before a certain time.

Taking to the forum, the woman said: "The tiny terrorist is on one this morning and I said to my partner, 'it's fine, we can get him out in the garden in 20 mins or so to burn off the excess energy'.

"He looked at me like I had two heads and told me anything before 10 or 10.30 on a weekend was unacceptable and would make us 'those neighbours'.

"For context we have two attached neighbours both with babies or young children themselves and ours is only a toddler so plays relatively quietly (obviously not silently though). So am I being unreasonable, am I accidentally the neighbour from hell?"

Soon the advice came rolling in as other parents pointed out that the woman's partner had a valid point

One user said it was "unacceptable", and another replied: "It’s a bit early. My cut off is 9am - 10:30 is the middle of the day for a toddler!."

"I’d say nine for other neighbours who might hear," said another.

And another commented with: "I would say 9.30am. Anything before 9 is definitely too early."

Another mum gave a very detailed answer, saying: "8:30 isn't horribly early but it would wake me up and p**s me off. 9:00 is ok but still a bit early.

"9:30 is better, 10:00 is really good. Depends what else is going on. If someone else is mowing their lawn or has noisy building works early then a noisy toddler isn't going to make any difference."

The mother who posted the question seemed to take the advice on board, as soon she added: "Ok I am being unreasonable haha. I think my view is skewed because I'm usually at work on a Saturday so up and out by 7.30.

"He's only 18 months so letting him out with conditions to not make noise definitely wouldn't work.

"Time to employ the emergency messy play indoors instead then since even CBeebies isn't cutting it today! Thanks for the opinions."
