Mum 'at end of her tether' shares 'extreme' way of making kids keep their bedrooms clean

A mum appeared on This Morning to share the controversial way she has managed to get her children to keep their bedrooms tidy.

Mum-of-three Katrina was at the "end of her tether" so decided to draw up a cleaning contract for each of her children and make them sign it.

Should any of the children fail to adhere to one of the rules set in the contract, they would receive a £5 fine.

The mum appeared alongside her three children to talk with This Morning hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes about the controversial tactic.

Katrina said her children had surprised her with how well they'd adapted to the new rules and said: "It has worked - it might sound extreme but it just proves that they can look after themselves."

Katrina said she works full time and didn't want to come home to her children's mess.

Ruth said: "It's an interesting idea" and added "it's that thing of being responsible for your own mess."

Speaking to one of the children, teenager Olivia, Eamonn said: "Is there a sex thing here, are boys worse than girls?"

Olivia said: "Yes" and went on to say boys were more likely to sit in their rooms eating, which prompted Ruth to say "they're just a bit disgusting".

Some of the rules drawn up in the contract include:

"No makeup in the bedroom, no eating in the bedroom, no juice or fizzy drinks in bedroom - only water, dirty washing must go in wash-basket, make bed everyday, always put shoes or trainers away" and more.

The children receive a £5 fine any time they break one of the rules.

Son Josh, 15, admitted to being fined twice for leaving clothes out while Olivia was fined for leaving a sweet wrapper in her pillow case.

Eamonn said: "I think what your mum is doing for you is making you better citizens" and added it teaches teens to "be responsible for their own space".

The fine money goes in a tin and is to be spent on something for the family to do together.
