Mum arrested as daughter, 3, dies after spending four hours in car in 38C heat

A mum has been arrested after her three-year-old daughter died after passing out in a hot car while she slept after a drug-fuelled party.

Tianna Jones, 23, is accused of child abuse following the death of her daughter Delilah.

The toddler was found unresponsive inside the vehicle after getting out of her home in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday - as temperatures soared to 38C.

Jones called police after waking up and realising her daughter was missing.

A police report said she had fallen asleep during the day after partying and using drugs the night before.

As officers searched the area, Jones realised her car keys were missing.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Mercedes Fortune told Patch : "Officers walked to Jones' car and found that the vehicle was parked.

"Officers looked inside and located Delilah inside of the vehicle unresponsive."

The little girl was rushed to hospital, but medics were unable to save her life.

Jones said that her daughter had escaped several times because of a faulty latch.

She is believed to have climbed into the car and stayed there for more than four hours before her mum started looking for her.

Delilah had been removed from her mother's custody on previous occasions because of neglect, a police report states.
