Mum and TikTokker says she's discovered how to get rid of gag reflex

A TikTokker claims to have discovered a way to get rid of her gag reflex - and the simple trick has left users on the site blown away.

Gemma Lawson, 36, first spotted the strange hack in someone else's TikTok video and soon decided to give it a go for herself. Her video has since gone viral, with over 74,300 likes so far, as the mum-of-two gives step-by-step instructions to how she eliminates her gag reflex.

In the clip, Gemma pushes her right thumb into her hand and squeezes it into a fist as hard as she can, before placing her right index finger on her chin and counting to five. Then, she squeezes the skin in between her right index finger and thumb for five seconds. Finally, Gemma sticks her fingers in her mouth to test the gag reflex - and is shocked to find that the trick has worked.

Social media users have been left equally stunned by the peculiar method.

"I have just tried this and it works, does anyone know how it works? I'm mind blown," another person said.

"It worked, that is actually madness," someone else added.

Others praised the woman for sharing the hack to help them take Covid-19 tests without gagging.

"Me with no significant other: 'Great now I can take Covid tests without crying!'," one person wrote.

"Gonna help me with the Covid tests," someone else said.

"I tried the hack the other night after seeing someone else do it on TikTok," Gemma, who works as a receptionist, told Jam Press.

"I decided to try it to see if it works. My gag reflex is shocking, haha! It definitely worked, even if it was for a short amount of time and I was honestly shocked. I gag brushing my teeth!

"I've had so many people comment on the TikTok saying they were shocked too, though a few people said it didn't work for them. Most comments and reactions have been hilarious. I honestly didn't expect it to go viral at all."
