Mum and son who died in Kerry murder-suicide to be laid to rest - 11km from killer dad

The funerals of two victims of a murder-suicide will take place on Monday.

Mossie O’Sullivan shot dead his son Jamie, 24, in his bedroom before killing his partner Eileen and then turned the gun on himself in Kerry on September 7.

He was buried in Kiltomey Cemetery after a private, invite-only funeral Mass last Monday.

No death notices were issued for the service, which was celebrated by Lixnaw parish priest Fr Anthony O’Sullivan at St Michael’s Church.

This morning, the private family funeral Mass for both Eileen and Jamie will take place in the same church.

The service, which will be held at 11am, will be live-streamed on the parish website.

Both Eileen and Jamie are to be buried afterwards in Kilfeighney Cemetery, 11km from where Mossie is laid to rest.

Neither Eileen and Jamie’s death notices mentioned Mossie.

Eileen’s notice read: “Deeply regretted by her loving family, her sisters Mary O’Sullivan and Margaret Reilley, brothers-in-law Sean Reilley and John Cronin, niece Catherine Houlihan, nephews Christopher and Timothy Houlihan, Lee J and Danny Reilley, neighbours, relatives and friends.”

And Jamie’s read: “Deeply regretted by his loving family, aunts Mary O’Sullivan and Margaret Reilley, uncles Jim and John O’Sullivan, cousins Catherine Houlihan, Christopher and Timothy Houlihan, Lee J and Danny Reilly, John, Mike, Denise and Noreen O’Sullivan, neighbours, relatives and friends.”

There is still no known motive at this stage for what is being treated as a double murder and a suicide, though it has been reported that Mossie O’Sullivan may have been diagnosed with cancer before the attack.

Gardai have appointed a family liaison officer who is continuing to offer support to the relatives involved in the case.
