Mum and son 'traumatised' as vandals spray paint car with 'MOVE' in parking row

A mum and her son have been left "traumatised" as vandals spray painted the word 'MOVE' across their car amid a parking row.

The windows of their Nissan Pixo were also smashed as the tyres were deflated while the car was parked near Leigh, Greater Manchester in the early hours of Monday morning.

In the rampage, a Ford Fiesta was also targeted by thugs, who damaged windows, painted the word 'MOVE' across three vehicles and let down tyres.

The vandalism has left the mum and her kids "traumatised", the Manchester Evening News reports.

They were left so distraught that they couldn't go to school, while she had been forced to take the day off work to look after them.

"They have been tearful all day," she said. "They have found it very traumatic and are confused and wondering why my car's been damaged.

"It's like 'why?' We have not done anything to anybody.

"It's just really over the top and unnecessary. They could have spoken to people about the parking, it's not a big deal. Even just a note on the windscreen, the problem could have been fixed.

"There is no need to do all that damage. The cars are completely wrecked. It's not going to be cheap to fix."

Vandals also targeted an Audi.

All three vehicles were parked in Glover Street, where the mum leaves her car overnight due to there being double yellow lines outside her home.

"I've always put it round the back," she said. "There was loads of room when I first moved in but it's built up over time.

"It's very hectic. There are so many cars.

"I've been here for four years and no one has raised it in any shape or form. This has really come out of the blue."

"I'm certainly not leaving it where that has been done," she said. "If I get the window done, I'm bothered about them coming back and damaging it again."

John Hill, who lives on Glover Street, said the number of cars parked on the residential street was an ongoing problem.

"People have been getting really upset with the amount of cars parked on this road," the 36-year-old said.

"It's that bad they park in front of my drive so I can't get out.

"Sometimes there are about ten cars here and no one can park. With all those cars, something was brewing."

Lorraine Ashworth, whose home is at the junction of Wigan Road and Glover Street, said she had her tyres slashed while parking next to her house two years ago.

"Parking around here has been a nightmare for years," she explained.

"I work 12-hour shifts and come home at eight at night and have to go down the street to find somewhere to park. It's ridiculous.

"They leave them right on the end so you can't get out. I've reported it to the council loads of times.

"I'm glad something has been done but I would not have been so extreme."

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
