Mum and four young daughters 'mortified' after encountering naked runner on walk

A mum was left mortified after she and her four daughters encountered a naked runner wearing just a bumbag while the family were out for a walk.

Sadie Trigg and her daughters were on a stroll near Lud's Church in Staffordshire Peak District when a naked man wearing just a bumbag dashed past.

The 29-year-old challenged the jogger about why he was running in the buff when there were youngsters about - but he said 'I'm only out for a run, what's wrong with that?".

The girls - aged 11, 10, four and three - were left unnerved by the encounter with the nude man.

Sadie, from Newcastle, told StokeonTrentLive : "We were on our way back and it was about 7.15pm. We'd been on a late afternoon walk.

"My two older daughters were walking quite a distance ahead at the time. We tried to shout to them to move out the way.

"He ran past but when I went to challenge him he stopped. He said 'there's no harm, I'm only out for a run, what's wrong with that?'.  He said 'shall I go and explain to them?'

"I was saying 'are you for real?'. I was in shock. He just kept saying he was doing no harm.

"I just told him to 'go' and he apologised to the girls and carried on. My partner wasn't happy at all.

"My 10-year-old found it quite funny. She has autism and didn't really understand. But my 11-year-old was mortified. She was saying 'that's not right'. Trying to explain it to her wasn't easy.

"The little ones weren't really bothered and my partner shielded their eyes.

"He seemed more scared of us than we were him in some ways. He actually went red in the face. I don't think he expected to run into us.

"If he was that embarrassed he would have covered himself up but he didn't.

"We would have taken a photo ourselves but we were just in shock."

Sadie believes the man was the same one who was previously pictured running in the Roaches.

She said: "I'd say he was in his late 30s or 40s. He just had his trainers and bumbag on.

"If he was dressed I'd imagine he's be quite a respectable man. He seemed quite well to do. He was definitely local as he had a North Staffordshire accent.

"It was 100% the man who was pictured in The Sentinel. I told my sister what had happened but she didn't believe me until she saw the story."

The family regularly go on walks in the Peak District but the encounter has made them more nervous.

Sadie added: "We've been up there lots of times and there's been lots of people up there over the summer holidays.

"I don't think we'll be going on that particular path again but we do like going for walks.

"It's a bit unnerving. I'm not sticking up for the guy but I don't think he was a pervert in any way but I do think it's wrong.

"I've since Googled what the law is and apparently you can go running naked after a certain time.

"There are more people than ever around at the moment so he should perhaps put some shorts on."
