Mum and daughter transform homes into Airbnbs

A mum whose daughter has joined her in her property development work told the ECHO it was the "best decision" they could have made.

Jill True from Southport started "dabbling" in property a few years ago, but began putting all of her energy into the hobby as a career after her husband died.

Her daughter Zoe has since joined her in her passion and the pair are now in the process of formalising it into a company.

Jill said: "We renovate properties, some of which we rent out or sell and others are used as Airbnbs. We love running Airbnbs, we wouldn’t be able to do it without the great team we have in place. Although it can be stressful, it’s also extremely rewarding."

The holiday homes Jill is behind include a number of properties under the 'Lemon Tree' brand. Dotted across Southport, they include Lemon Tree Townhouse, Lemon Tree Terrace and Lemon Tree Apartment.

As well as renovating properties, Jill and Zoe 'stage' homes for sale and have a number of Airbnbs across Southport (Jill True)

She said: "The Airbnbs we have are really buoyant. We are about to launch our fourth one in Birkdale. It went a little but quiet in January as it always does but are happy to say that our calendars are now quickly filling up again."

Jill and Zoe also do a lot of staging work. Jill added: "We help people who present their houses for sale and turn it into a space where buyers can imagine themselves living."

Jill said Zoe "takes the reins" when it comes to practical matters, while she has a "passion" for interiors. Jill added: "I love transforming particularly ramshackle places into beautiful spaces.

"My husband always believed that family businesses thrive but never wanted me to hold the kids back from making their own career paths.

"I think Zoe would agree that deciding to work together was the best decision we both could have made as we both have different approaches and work in different ways that together allow us to see the full picture."

The mum and daughter team now have at least two properties on the go at any one time. Their most recent project is converting a house into a block of studio flats, which Jill expects to be "very challenging and exciting".
