Two people reportedly said to be a mother and her 11-year-old daughter have been rescued from the sea after falling overboard on the way to Belfast Harbour.
The pair were lifted from the water and taken to hospital as police investigate how they ended up in the water.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) confirmed that they were called to deal with an incident on Thursday evening.
A spokesperson for the NIAS told Belfast Live that multiple units were deployed to the harbour just before 7pm.
Belfast Harbour Police told the BBC the mother and her daughter were "believed to have entered the water in Belfast Lough after going overboard from the Stena Horizon".
A statement issued to the Mirror said: “Belfast Harbour Police are investigating an incident in which two females are believed to have entered the water in Belfast Lough, after going overboard from the Stena Horizon.
"Both females were safely recovered from the water and taken to hospital by emergency services.”
Stena Line confirmed a 'man overboard' incident had occurred on the Stena Horizon ferry on its approach to Belfast Harbour yesterday evening.
A spokesman told Mirror Online in a statement written last night: “Stena Line can confirm that a ‘man overboard’ incident occurred on the Stena Horizon ferry at approximately 6.45pm this evening (25 Feb 2021) on its approach to berth in Belfast Harbour.
"Stena Line deployed emergency response crews from the Stena Horizon and Stena Superfast VIII which was in the vicinity at the time.
"Two persons were retrieved from the water and were attended to by local emergency service crews waiting on the dockside in Belfast.
"Stena Line has informed all relevant authorities of the incident and is currently assisting with the various investigations now under way.”
