Mum and dad charged with murder after daughter, 5, dies weighing just half a stone

A mum and dad face murder charges after their five-year-old daughter died weighing just half a stone.

Tragic Kylie Mickens was as heavy as a newborn baby when she was taken unresponsive to hospital in Georgia in the US.

The little girl died the following day, on June 8, prompting a police investigation.

This week the little girl's parents, Jerrail Mickens, 31, and Porscha Mickens, 29, were both arrested and charged with felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children.

The case was opened after the sheriff's office was contacted by staff at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton.

Kylie was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta - Scottish Rite Hospital, but did not survive.

The sheriff's department carried out a search warrant on the parents' home and carried out interviews before announcing the arrests.

Spokesman Derreck Booth told Forsyth County News that Kylie had died as a result of “dehydration and malnutrition due to medical neglect, with the manner of death being homicide".

Shortly after the little girl's death, her grandmother posted an appeal on Facebook asking for costs with her burial costs.

She said that Kylie had a "rare condition", and had only been expected to live for two years.

She wrote: "However we experienced a true miracle and were able to enjoy 5 years with her."
