Mum and baby knocked over during attempted robbery in Leeds

A mother and her baby were knocked over by a bungling robber in Leeds.

The 21-year-old woman was walking with her child in the park near the Abbey House Museum, in Kirkstall Road, at around 5.30pm on Saturday, November 16 when she was approached by a man.

He asked for the time and she kept walking so he ran at her and stuffed his hand into her coat pocket.

He knocked the woman into the pushchair that her child was in and they both tumbled to the ground.

West Yorkshire Police say neither of them was injured and nothing was stolen. The man was seen running off towards Horsforth after the failed robbery.

He has been described as a stocky white man who is around 5ft 9ins tall. He was seen wearing a dark zip-up jacket and dark jogging bottoms.

Police believe the suspect may also have stolen a phone from a 19-year-old man outside TGI Friday’s, in Kirkstall Road, on Sunday, November 17.

The thief asked for the time and when the victim took his phone out to check, the man barged him out the way and ran off with it.

In a statement, police said: "Anyone who witnessed either incident or has been approached and asked for the time by a man matching the description in the same area is asked to contact Leeds District Crime Team via 101, quoting crime reference 13190589573."
