Mum and baby followed by man claiming to be taxi driver who 'tried to grab her'

A mum walking with her baby claims a man who said he was a taxi driver followed her before trying to grab her.

The woman told police she was pushing her pram in the Wirral when a silver car pulled up behind her.

She says the man claiming to be a cabbie said he would take her "anywhere she wanted" before reaching out towards her.

Merseyside Police's inspector Roger Pegrum described it as a "distressing incident" as police appeal for witnesses or anyone who has video footage from around 9.15pm on Tuesday, August 31.

The man was described as in his 40s, with black hair, clean shaven and wearing a blue t-shirt.

Community policing chief inspector Pegrum said: "This was a distressing incident for the young woman, and we would be keen to hear from anyone who was on Eleanor Road at the time, or lives in the area, and may have captured the details of the vehicle involved on their own CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices.

"The victim did exactly the right thing by walking away calling police immediately.

"We’ll of course act on any further information received to find the person responsible."

If you have any information call police on 101.
