Mum admits she's 'embarrassed' by her daughter's name - and wants to change it

Over time our tastes in things change - we stop liking things we used to be obsessed with and learn to love things we swore we never would.

But what happens when you stop liking the name you selected for your child?

This is the tricky situation one couple have found themselves in a few weeks after their second daughter was born.

The unnamed mum took to the internet to ask for advice on whether it would be ok to change her baby's name or whether she should suck it up and deal with the consequences of her choice.

Devastated mum regrets daughter's name - as people keep saying it's 'boring'

In a post on Mumsnet, the woman revealed she had given birth to a second child at the end of February.

Both she and her husband had chosen the name Betty for their little girl, but now feel they "rushed into naming her".

The parents are left regretting their choice and are unsure of how to proceed.

She wrote: "I'm suffering from baby name regret and I don't know what to do.

Mum hits back at cruel trolls who mocked her for unusual baby name choice

"I actually do like the name Betty, but we rushed into naming her without thinking about it properly and now it just does not suit baby girl."

The woman went on to admit that she disliked the name so much that she's now "embarrassed" to introduce her daughter to new people.

She continued: "I don't call her Betty at all because I can't stand to imagine having to call her that for the rest of my life!

"My husband said he wants to change her name and honestly so do I. He says she's not too old and when she will get too old we won't be able to change her name."

20 quirky baby names which are set to become very popular this year

The couple have decided they want their daughter to be called Iris.

The mum says she thinks this is a "gorgeous" name and she much prefers it to the current one they've picked.

She added: "We decided to call her Iris yesterday around the house to test it out and it suits her perfectly, I also like how it goes with out eldest's name, Poppy.

"It's just that my baby's name seems weird to me and I don't know whether I should go for it! Do you think I should? Or should I learn to live with Betty?"

What were the most popular baby names of the last year?

Man shocked by girlfriend's baby name choice - but she doesn't see a problem

Dozens of people responded to the mum's post, with many telling her to make the change before it's too late.

One person said: "Yes of course you can change it and it's so early on do not hesitate. She doesn't know her own name yet. Iris is lovely."

Another replied: "Poppy and Iris go perfectly together, much nicer than Poppy and Betty. Definitely change it, she need never know."

A third commented: "I think Betty is much nicer than Iris! But the only thing that matters is what you like, so definitely change it if it's important to you."
