Mum accused of leaving child alone in Asda car park

A mum was 'shocked' when police knocked on her window asking if she left her child in a car unattended while shopping in Asda.

After picking up her mum from work, the woman, from Liverpool, parked at Asda on Grange Road in Birkenhead at 3.45pm on Monday, July 19, while she went shopping on her own.

Once finished, she got into the car as normal and went to leave the car park when she saw 'loads' of police and people running in the car park.

She said "Me mum saw loads of police and people running in Asda car park. I said 'ohhhh somethings going on here'.

"Anyway I get home and police pull up and knock, someone reported me saying I left my son in the car on his own.

"He was with his nan, we picked her up and went straight to the Asda."

The woman said she had tinted the windows in black but if the people who reported her had 'just had a quick check' they would have seen her little boy sat in the car with his nan.

She said: "Thank you for the concern over my son to whoever reported me to the police. I understand people are concerned so I'm not really upset but just a quick check and look through my car window next time and you would have seen them both sitting there.

"It was a waste of police time but I understand your concern.

"If I seen that I would have tried to open the car door or even break in if I thought there was a child at risk, or even waited by the car for police."

Merseyside Police have confirmed they attended attended the incident, they said: "We were called around 3.45pm yesterday (Monday, July 19 ) to reports of a concern for safety of two children in Asda car park Birkenhead.

"Patrols attended and confirmed the children were safe and well."
