Mum accused of 'child abuse' after sharing picture of baby's manicured nails

A mum has been accused of 'child abuse' after sharing a picture of her baby's manicured nails.

The mum posted a picture of her baby's nails on social media and other parents were horrified at the perfectly manicured talons on the ends of the baby's tiny fingers.

After the picture was shared to Reddit's r/Trashy forum outraged parents vented their disapproval with more than 300 people commenting to share their thoughts.

A concerned user asked: "Would this count as child abuse or endangerment if the child hurt itself with these nails?

"It’s technically giving a child several sharp objects."

Others said the mother or father responsible was a 'terrible parent'.

One said: "My babies had to sleep in mittens every night because they would just shred their faces. This is going to end badly."

Another added: "That baby could poke its eyes out, terrible parent," wrote a second.

Another: "Baby nails are sharp enough as it is, those things would tear your face right up."

"More importantly, THE BABIES face. An itchy eye could result in permanent blindness," added another.

According to the study, parents rarely adopt controlled crying with newborn babies but it was increasingly used by parents over the first 18 months of their child's life. (Getty Images)

Someone else replied: "WTF? You are supposed to keep a baby’s nails trimmed so they don’t scratch themselves."

"The stupidity of some people.... words fail me," said another.

However not everyone was convinced the picture was even authentic.

One said: "It isn't real... at that age, baby fingernails are like paper.... the are super thin and flimsy."

"Definitely photoshopped. If there really were a mother daft and trashy enough to put fake nails on their baby like that, they sure as hell wouldn't have nails this short themselves like the hand holding the baby's," added another.

While others tought they baby was actually wearing false nails. She said: "Those are not the baby’s natural nails. Judging by the colour difference in the nail bed and the nail extension, I’d say that they’re most likely SNS, acrylic or plain fake nails.

"More than likely fake nails pre-shaped before being glued on. What baby is gonna sit still enough for a proper manicure? Still, very gross"

"The more I think about this the worse it gets. Sooo disgusting," said another.
