Mum accidentally names her baby girl after pasta

A mum has taken to the internet to ask for advice after discovering she has accidentally named her daughter after pasta.

The mum had a new baby girl nine weeks ago and named her Elizabeth, but the family has quickly pointed out that her name when shortened turns into a popular pasta dish.

The mum now wants to know what to do and has asked whether she should change her baby girl's name, reports the Daily Star.

It comes a week after comedian Amy Schumer revealed she had changed her sons' name.

Amy originally gave her son the middle name Attell - after friend and fellow comedian Dave Attell.

She also picked the first name Gene, and her son has taken his father's surname Fischer.

Speaking on her podcast, she said: “So do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name is officially changed?

“It’s now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer but we realised that we by accident named our son, ‘genital.'”

Fans said the original name sounded like genital fissure.

In a similar twist, the mum who took to Reddit revealed she had given her daughter Elizabeth the middle name Anya.

Which is fine until you shorten her first name to Liz.

On Reddit, she said: “My husband and I welcomed our first child about nine weeks ago.

“We found out it was going to be a girl and we quickly decided on the name Elizabeth for her.

“Her middle name was originally going to be Jane, with the intent to call her EJ, however, when I was seven months pregnant, my husband's mother lost her fight with breast cancer.

“Her name was Anya (pronunciation: Ahn-Yuh). I loved her so I offered to change the middle name from Jane to Anya.

“My husband and his family were touched and agreed so our daughter became Elizabeth Anya Jane Last-Name.”

The mum added that her family won’t stop calling the baby “lasagne”.

She added: “A few days after she was born we quickly started calling her Liz instead of Elizabeth…

“Hadn't made the mental connection but if you put her first and second names together ‘Liz Anya’ it really does make ‘lasagna’.

“I told my sister that I doubt anyone would make that connection, especially considering people rarely use their middle names in daily life.

“But then my whole family chimed in and now everyone keeps calling my daughter ‘Lasagna’.

“Now I'm scared that when she eventually starts school her classmates and others will latch onto this and make fun of her.”

The mum ended the post with a plea for advice.

She wrote: “Am I the a***hole for naming the daughter what I did? Am I the a***hole for cutting off my family for their teasing?

“Have I brought this on myself?”

The post has racked up 5,900 upvotes.

One commenter said: “They are being unreasonable and cruel to taunt an infant by calling her names.”

Another said: “If they’re refusing to stop after you asked, then yeah, keep them away till they can learn to respect your wishes.

“As for school, I wouldn’t worry about it.

“Things might be different from when I was in school, but no one knew anyone else’s middle names unless they specifically asked, it wasn’t part of attendance.

“If you’re that concerned, you could go back to calling her Elizabeth, or if you really want a nickname, Eliza or Lisa? Just some suggestions.”

And a third added: “I doubt anyone at school will find out her middle name unless she insists on being called Liz Anya once older.

“The family should be a bit more sensitive, but also, until she's older to decide if it upsets her I think Lasagna is a cute family nickname.”
