A young girl was fatally hit by a car as her mum tried to park.
The three-year-old, known as Lina, ran out to meet her mum when she drove the SUV into the car park.
She was knocked to the floor, causing chaos to break out in the Luzerne County, Pennsylvania park, according to one witness.
Lina was rushed to Wilkes Barre General Hospital but doctors were unable to save her life.
Her family had gathered at the park on Saturday to celebrate the 18th birthday of the toddler's aunt, according to US news outlet WNEP.
Relatives told the public they did not know how the girl came to be behind the car.
Witness Steven Olivares said: “A lot of people were screaming, a lot of children were just confused. It was scary."
He said that the incident had hit him "pretty hard.”
Lina’s aunt told WNEP her niece was “always smiling, beautiful and smart beyond her three years”.
People living close to the park have long expressed concerns about the way people drive on the roads leading to it.
They often break the speed limit and ignore a stop sign, they said.
On Sunday Lina's family gathered at the park once again to mourn her death.
They erected a memorial and released balloons into the sky.
