Mum, 37, dies of coronavirus just days after birth of her third child

A mum has died after contracting coronavirus just seven days after giving birth to her third child.

Salina Shaw, 37, who was diabetic, gave birth on April 4 to a baby girl and died on Easter Sunday.

Her family confirmed online that she had tested postive for Covid-19, and had an underlying health issue.

Partner Abdul Bangura said Salina lived a vegan lifestyle and had "battled for her life" as she followed social distancing measures.

Writing on Facebook, her cousin paid tribute: “On Easter Sunday my cousin Salina was taken from this world far too soon.

"But from this utter sorrow, everyone should know that this lady was a force to be reckoned with, a powerful single mum, with fire in her belly and determination that you would never have seen in anyone.

“Her smile lit a room as soon as she walked in, always with a little swag and always looking on point! She lived life to the fullest, she took her girls on dream holidays to Jamaica, Dubai, America, the list went on.️

“Sadly, Salina lost her mum after she had only just given birth to her first daughter, who is now almost 18! So she instinctively taught her daughter to follow in her footsteps and to show them how to become independent in their own rights.

"She adored her own and other children so built a successful childminding business to share her love and wisdom. A true legend!”

Salina's family have launched a fundraiser for her children which has so far reached £6, 422.

They described her as someone who left a big impact with 'her energy, free spirit and kind caring nature, filled with love', they wrote on Just Giving.

The news comes as the UK death toll stands at 13,729 and the number of confirmed cases reaches 104,304, according to the John Hopkins University virus tracker.

Earlier this month a grim report defining the demographic most at risk showed one in ten coronavirus-related deaths in England were in 'healthy' citizens.

Among those who had no pre-existing illnesses was 13-year-old Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab, from Brixton, London, who passed away last month.

And Luca Di Nicola, 19, from Italy but living in North London, who was believed to have been in good health, lost his life just 30 minutes after being rushed to hospital. He was diagnosed with fulminant pneumonia.

The UK has extended lockdown for at least another three weeks as officials say they cannot be sure the coronavirus has peaked yet.

Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, said there was hope that the number of new infections was not still rising, but it was not clear if this is true of hospitals and care homes.

The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies has warned that relaxing any social distancing measures would risk damage to public health and the economy.
