A mum gave birth on the front seat of her car and her husband caught the baby as they pulled up in front of the hospital.
Madhavi Leuke Bandara's newborn son was overdue by nearly a week when she suddenly went into labour on Thursday morning.
The 33-year-old, from South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and her husband Shyam Kottegoda dropped their daughter Buvi off at day care before racing to Mater Mothers' Hospital.
But the new arrival - who has not yet been named - couldn't wait any longer and was born in the car park at 8.44am.
"It was a quick labour, about 2.5 hours," Mrs Bandara is quoted as saying in a hospital press release.
"It all happened so quickly and before I knew it my husband actually caught the baby in the front passenger seat.
"He was overdue — we were expecting him on January 16 but we are incredibly happy he is ok."
The newborn weighed in at 3.6kg.
Midwives Marine Pacquier, Carrie Simpson, and Gabby Rowsell rushed outside to help.
Ms Pacquier described Mrs Bandara as being "quite calm".
"The baby was already out when we got there," she continued.
"Her husband actually had quite a few tears once he knew everything was ok."
Mr Kottegoda, who had parked in the emergency area, told local news outlet Nine: "I was going to enter the hospital but my wife said, ‘I think he’s coming.’
“My wife told me she couldn’t walk so I was going to go inside to grab a wheelchair but when I opened the [passenger] door, I saw half of the baby coming out.
"So I caught the baby with my hands and then I began yelling for help."
Despite the quick labour, the parents have said they will take their time in deciding on a name.
Mater Mothers' Hospitals is one of Australia’s largest and most experienced maternity service providers, delivering more than 12,000 babies every year.
