Mum, 27, dies of Covid after 'putting off' jab because she was busy with her kids

The dad of a mum-of-three who died of Covid has "no doubt" his daughter would still be alive if she'd been jabbed.

Rashelle Baird, 27, from Brechin in Scotland, died in Dundee's Ninewells Hospital last week after catching the virus.

Now her heartbroken dad, Stephen Baird, says he is sure his daughter would have survived the virus with a vaccination.

He explained that Rashelle only delayed her appointment because she was so busy with her kids.

He has urged anyone receiving a vaccine letter to "just get it done", the BBC reports.

Mr Baird, from Arbroath, also said his daughter was not anti-vaccine.

He told the broadcaster: "It was just more to with, every time she got an appointment in, she had something to do with the kids.

"So she put it off and put it off.

"She wanted to get her vaccine but she put her kids first."

When Rashelle - who had asthma - started experiencing symptoms, she initially thought it was a cold passed on by her kids.

But as it got worse she was admitted to hospital.

It was so severe that she was placed in an induced coma in intensive care and died several days later.

Mr Baird said: "I think if she'd had the two injections she would have had that level of protection which would have stopped it getting as far as it did."

Lani Baird, Rashelle's sister, said she was "kind, bubbly, and always the life and soul of the party."

She said: "She was very determined to get it (the vaccination) done.

"And as we know, it's just the timing and we're now in a situation where we are."

Lani hopes that Rashelle's case will help people to stop being complacent about the virus and its vaccine.

She said: "I think we always assume that it happens to other people, that it doesn't happen to us.

"This virus is real. So, it's very important we do as much as we can to protect ourselves and others around us by getting vaccinated."

In a Facebook post, Lani spoke of her "heavy heart" after losing her beloved "baby sister" who she affectionately called "Rash Bash".
