Mum, 21, shot in the head and killed by toddler during work Zoom call

This emergency call captures the aftermath of a mum being shot in the head by her toddler on Zoom.

Shamaya Lynn, 21, was on a call with her work colleagues when one of her children picked up a loaded pistol and killed her.

One of her co-workers rang 911 after she heard a bang and spotted Ms Lynn fall backwards on the work call.

The shocking incident took place in Altamonte Springs, near Orlando, US, on Wednesday.

The mum's boyfriend also rang police in a panic when he came home and found her unconscious in a pool of blood.

He told the call handler: “I literally just got home. And I come in the room and my girlfriend, she was working on the computer, she’s just laid back. There’s blood everywhere!

"Come on! Come on! Come on! Come on now, hurry, please hurry! Please! I don’t know what happened, I just went in the house. I just came through the door!"

The loaded gun reportedly belonged to the child's father, who was questioned but not arrested, reports say.

Officers believe the child found the unsecured gun and shot Ms Lynn.

Ms Lynn's co-worker, who also rang the police, explained to the operator that she saw her colleague 'pass out'.

She said: "I don't know where to begin, but I'm on a live with a company, we just got hired. And one of the girls just passed out. She's bleeding.

"We heard a loud 'kaboom' and then she leaned back, and then we just got blood from her face."

The worker added that she could hear a baby crying in the background.

Altamonte Springs Police Department is still investigating the death, with officers warning people about the dangers of unsecured guns.

Sgt Rob Ruiz said: "This young mother lost her life after one of her toddlers found an unsecured handgun in the apartment.

"We do have a responsibility as adults to keep people safe, especially when you own a firearm."

Police Officer Roberto Ruiz Jr added: "If you own a firearm, please keep it locked and secured. Incidents like this could be avoided."

It comes less than a year after a three-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself in the head with a gun he found in a drawer.

Tragic James Kenneth Lindquester found the loaded handgun at a home in Aloha, Oregon, and pulled the trigger.

Panicked family members called 911, but medics were unable to save his life.

The little boy died two hours later, investigators said.

Washington County Deputy, Shannon Wilde told KATU2 : "I think if you ask any first responder, the death of a child is the absolute worst call that we go to."

And she continued: "We see a lot of horrible things but seeing a child in that situation is the worst."
