Multiversus announced, a Smash Bros.-style fighter starring Batman and Arya Stark

Warner Bros. revealed a brand new platform fighting game today in the form of Multiversus. Taking several cues from Nintendo’s popular Super Smash Bros. series, Multiversus brings together many seemingly disparate Warner Bros. properties together. We reported on a rumor about a Warner Bros. fighter recently.

The announcement was made with a brand new trailer, showcasing early gameplay and an already strong roster. Fighting games fans are, as always, happy to hear that the game has dedicated server-based rollback netcode, which should hopefully ensure online games have very little latency. Being “best in class” when it comes to online experience is one of the goals stated in the trailer by developer Player First Games.

The game is confirmed to launch on PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms in 2022. No Nintendo Switch, but that console already has Super Smash Bros., which is pretty difficult for any publisher to compete with.

Multiversus already looks surprisingly polished, with full voice acting across the roster, from voice actors you’re guaranteed to recognize. With characters like Batman, Shaggy, Arya Stark and Bugs Bunny in the roster, this should appeal to a wide audience.

Multiversus is also confirmed to be fully free to play, indicating that we just might see season passes and lootboxes in the game when it launches. At least it makes playing before you spend any money much easier.

The full roster that has been confirmed thus far for Warner’s Multiversus is listed below, though there will be more character announcements before the game launches next year.

  • Arya Stark
  • Batman
  • Bugs Bunny
  • Finn The Human
  • Garnet
  • Harley Quinn
  • Jake The Dog
  • Reindog
  • Shaggy
  • Steven Universe
  • Superman
  • Tom and Jerry
  • Wonder Woman
