Multiple teams had Georgia OT Andrew Thomas as No. 1 OT in NFL Draft

Former Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas was selected by the New York Giants with the 4th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

That pick has seemed to go over well with experts along with Big Blue Nation.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman took Thomas over the likes of Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons with his sophomore quarterback Daniel Jones and third year running back Saquon Barkley in mind.

According to NJ Advance Media, The Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers had Thomas as the number one offensive tackle available, per several NFL scouts and executives.

The Giants also drafted Oregon guard Shane Lemieux and UConn tackle Matt Peart, beefing up their offensive line even more. They drafted a total of 950 lbs of pass protection in those three picks.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive line coach Paul Alexander spoke to NJ Advance Media about the former Georgia tackle.

“I knew immediately that the guy understood football,” said Alexander on Thomas.

“He was a tremendous body, great athlete, and a very productive player, but he’s a guy who could take it to the next-level, because he could make adjustments. He understood the adjustments and made them easily, which is what great pros do.”

A lot of teams would have taken Thomas very soon after the Giants pick.  They’ve secured a corner-piece to a new and improved offensive line their franchise is trying to build.
