Rave at Dublin Port postponed due to 'insurance issues'

A series of popular summer events that were due to happen at Dublin Port have now been postponed.

Temporary Pleasure, the self-declared "rave architecture collective generating temporary spaces" was due to host four outdoor events across two weekends in July at Dublin Port. The events were due to run from 8th-9th July and 15th-16th July.

But in an update, Temporary Pleasure have shared on social media that these events won't go ahead due to "insurance issues regarding temporary structures ". The project has taken three years to develop.

It had planned to convert Dublin Port Pumphouse into an "ephemeral space" to host events and performances in the heart of the working port for the first time. The events were set to feature local artists and collectives.

Now the organisers Temporary Pleasure have confirmed that next month's events sadly won't go ahead. They posted on social media:

"We’ve been quiet this week as our Dublin date approaches. Due to unforeseen insurance issues regarding temporary structures, we must unfortunately postpone the event until further notice.

"While we had insurance cover in place before announcing, new terms and conditions were added later which are impossible to satisfy given the insurance market in Ireland currently.

"We explored and exhausted every possible angle - including reducing the design to all but the most basic infrastructure; running the workshop without any public events; and even running a workshop eliminating power tools and using only low risk construction methods - but even this was refused on a public liability issue."

Temporary Pleasure said that they "really tried everything we could to make this one happen", but that unfortunately the event must be postponed. They added: "We would like to thank you all so much for your enthusiasm, our partners and collaborators for your endless support, and to our workshop participants for the time and energy you put into your incredible applications.

"We are so sorry to let you down on this one, we have a lot of work to do in laying the path for future events. Until next time."

Social media users were disappointed to hear that the summer events have been cancelled. One person commented: "Very sorry to hear. Sending love."

A second added: "Classic Ireland, so disappointing for you guys." A third said: "A brilliant initiative, hopefully be back soon."
