West George Street: Three people killed, suspect shot and officer injured in Glasgow mass stabbing

Three people have died and a police officer has been injured in a multiple stabbing incident in Glasgow city centre this afternoon.

The suspect has been shot by police, who say that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attacks.

At around 1.30pm today (26 June), Glasgow Live reported that a multiple stabbing has taken place on a busy city centre road. The police have put out a statement confirming that the family of the officer who was stabbed has been notified.

Glasgow police urged the public to avoid West George Street, as well as Renfield Street, between West Regent Street and St Vincent Street.

One bystander tweeted: "Reports of multiple stabbings in Glasgow City Centre and a potential major incident with upwards of 20 police vehicles, riot shields, armed officers and paramedics on West George Street."

Someone else spotted armed officers running along the street, and also 'storming a building'.

BBC News is reporting that the people who died were stabbed in the stairwell of a hotel on West George Street.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he is “deeply saddened by the terrible incident in Glasgow” and that “my thoughts are with all the victims and their families”.

“Thank you to our brave emergency services who are responding,” he added.
