A number of people have reportedly been seriously injured after a passenger train derailed south of Aberdeen in Scotland.
British Transport Police said officers were called to the scene at Stonehaven at 9:43am (local time) along with paramedics and the fire brigade.
At least 30 emergency services vehicles were in attendance according to the BBC, which reported smoke could be seen billowing from the scene of the incident.
Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon told Scottish Parliament there were reports of multiple serious injuries.
It is not known how many people were onboard the train when the incident happened.
"This is an extremely serious incident," Ms Sturgeon tweeted.
"I've had an initial report from Network Rail and the emergency services and am being kept updated.
"All my thoughts are with those involved."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was saddened to learn of the "very serious incident" in Aberdeenshire and his thoughts were with all those affected.
Scotland's east had experienced torrential rain and thunderstorms which caused flooding on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
