Multiple police vehicles attend Kilmarnock street as crowd gathers near primary school

Police officers have attended a street near a primary school in Kilmarnock this evening.

A number of patrol cars and at least one van was on the scene as they dealt with a situation in the Bellfield area of town.

A large crowd gathered where Cruachan Place meets Whatriggs Road and Merrick Road – next to Whatriggs Primary School.

Officers attempted to disperse the crowd and an eyewitness reckons at least 50 to 100 people were around the scene.

Police were at the street at around 7pm, and at the moment it is unclear why the force were there.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a protest in the Cruachan Place area of Kilmarnock at around 6.20pm on Monday, May 31. The gathering of people dispersed by around 7.25pm.”
