Two people were hospitalized and multiple people injured after a car crash involving a self-driving Waymo in Los Angeles.
The two-vehicle accident took place at around 5.44am on Sunday in the Pico-Union area of the city near downtown, according to authorities.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said at least two people were taken to local hospitals and at least one other was treated and released at the scene, reported the Los Angeles Times.
Video and photos from the scene show debris scattered across the street.
Waymo told the outlet that in its view its car was not at fault for the accident.
The autonomous taxi firm stated that its Waymo car was driving at 27mph on Venice Blvd when the other vehicle, a blue sedan it says was traveling at between 47mph and 50mph, hit a pedestrian outside a crosswalk, swerved across the road and hit the Waymo.
”The safety of our riders and other road users is our top priority,” spokesperson Ethan Teicher said. “We are coordinating with first responders and are grateful for their quick response.”
Waymo carries out 500,000 weekly paid robotaxi trips across 10 U.S. cities as of March 2026, according to data analysis by TechCrunch.
