UEFA have announced that "several people" have been taken to hospital after a Greenpeace protester's parachute stunt before the Euro 2020 clash between France and Germany.
There were bizarre scenes just minutes before kick-off in Munich on Tuesday night as a protestor parachuted into the stadium and almost crashed into supporters before being led away by security.
The man appeared to get his wires tangled in the spider camera, and careered dangerously towards some of the fans present and those sitting in the media suite.
Fortunately he managed to steer his parachute away from a head-on collision with the stands, and ended up on the pitch.
But it appears that his antics did in fact cause some harm to those in attendance, with UEFA confirming that multiple people had been taken to hospital with injuries.
A UEFA statement said: "Shortly before the start of tonight's UEFA EURO 2020 match between France and Germany in Munich, a protester briefly entered the stadium from the air and tried to land on the pitch.
"This inconsiderate act - which could have had very serious consequences for a huge number of people attending - caused injuries to several people attending the game who are now in hospital and law authorities will take the necessary action.
"UEFA and its partners are fully committed to a sustainable EURO 2020 tournament and many initiatives have been implemented to offset carbon emissions.
"The staging of the match was fortunately not impacted by such a reckless and dangerous action, but several people were injured nonetheless."
The yellow parachute was emblazoned with 'KICK OUT OIL', and Greenpeace in Germany confirmed they were behind the stunt as a protest against the tournament sponsor Volkswagen.
"We as the German football federation condemn it of course, because it wasn't just him, but others that he endangered and injured. It's unacceptable from our point of view," German team spokesman Jens Grittner said. "And the incident is being checked by the police, the authorities here in Munich and at UEFA. But of course we also condemn what happened there. It could probably have turned out much worse."
