Multiple fire crews called out to 2am student flat blaze

Firefighters responded to a blaze in a student flat in Bond Street South in the early hours of Thursday (October 7).

Crews from Temple and Bedminster responded to the 2am blaze in St Pauls but found the fire extinguished when they got there.

The fire had broken out on the fourth floor of the block of student flats but it appears that nobody was injured.

When the crews got there, they ensured that the building was evacuated and then went in using thermal imaging cameras and gas monitors to assess the cause of the fire.

The heavy smoke damage, the firefighters deployed their truck’s turntable ladder and a positive pressure ventilation fan to aid with smoke ventilation in the fourth floor flat.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was due to accidental ignition, meaning human error is not believed to be the cause.

They returned during daylight hours to make sure the flat’s student occupants were up to date on fire safety.
