Multiple counties keen to sign Luke Wood from Nottinghamshire but Alex Hales yet to receive offers

Nottinghamshire face a battle to keep Luke Wood at the club after receiving multiple approaches to sign the seamer.

Wood is one of three players who are out of contract at the end of the season and while Notts are keen to keep him, his status as a fringe player at present means he might take some persuading.

The 23-year-old left armer would be an attractive signing given his additional ability with the bat as he looks to become seen as a genuine all-rounder.

Multiple counties have made formal approaches with Northamptonshire understood to be among them, while Worcestershire are another possible contender given Wood has spent time on loan at both clubs.

Director of cricket Mick Newell is looking to convince Wood to remain at his home county given his long-term potential.

"We don't want him to leave and we want to create an environment where he wants to stay," he said.

"Hopefully we can create that environment for him in the next three months. We need to make every effort to keep him here."

Wood has played just three times for Notts this season, twice in the County Championship and once in the Royal London One Day Cup.

In 37 first-class games, he averages 26 with the bat and has 86 wickets at an average of 34.

Meanwhile, Mark Footitt looks set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old left arm quick has not played first team cricket this season and while his attitude has been exemplary, he looks highly unlikely to be offered a new deal.

Alex Hales is the third out of contract player. Given his three week ban earlier in the summer, Notts have put contract talks on hold until the end of the season and as yet no other county has approached the club over his signature.
