Multiple arrests after two week crime spree in same area

A Merseyside town has seen a crackdown on crime after a recent flurry of illegal behaviour has worried residents.

Merseyside Police today confirmed it has arrested multiple people over the last two weeks relating to crimes across Southport.

Following a patrol in Birkdale in the early hours of Tuesday October 26, a man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference, after someone reported seeing a man trying car door handles.

While in custody, the 34-year-old man was further arrested on suspicion of a business burglary that also occurred in the early hours of Tuesday and another offence of theft from motor vehicle that took place on September 22.

He has since been bailed with enquiries ongoing.

Merseyside Police also confirmed the arrest of two men on Meols Cop Road following concerns from residents.

The two men were arrested on Wednesday October 20 on suspicion of intent to supply controlled drugs. Numerous wraps of suspected class A drugs were seized from the men aged 50- and 46-years-old.

The 50-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of theft of a bike that he was using. Both men have been released under further investigation.

Another man was also arrested on Tuesday October 26 on Hawkshead Street.

The 50-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled drugs.

When searched, he was found with a number of wraps of suspected class A drugs. He has been released under investigation after first being taken to hospital in Aintree.
