Multi-vehicle smash causes A77 delays and car hits tree as emergency services race to scene

Multiple police and fire appliances rushed to a busy Scots road following two separate incidents in East Ayrshire.

The A77 was partially blocked in both directions with a multi-vehicle smash causing traffic chaos on the northbound carriageway.

Emergency services have been on the scene at the B7082 Grassyards Road following the crash at around 10.20am this morning, with congestion to the Bellfield Interchange.

Local reports suggest there was three cars involved in the smash, however it is not known whether there are any casualties.

Meanwhile traffic was also queuing traffic southbound as roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix reported a car hit a tree immediately opposite the incident.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance at the road.

Regarding the northbound smash, a police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a crash there around 10.20am this morning and emergency services are at the scene."

Motorists are advised to use caution on approach and allow extra time for their journey.

Shortly before midday, Traffic Scotland tweeted to confirm all northbound lanes were clear following the collision.
