Multi-vehicle crash closes westbound M8 at rush hour near Edinburgh causing miles of tailbacks

A crash on the westbound M8 just after 5pm on Monday 15 July has completely closed the main carriageway for nearly 90 minutes so far, causing huge tailbacks in the area, including on the city bypass.

The multi-vehicle accident on the westbound M8 happened at Junction 2 (M9) in between the slip roads. Emergency services are in attendance at what appears to be a serious incident.

Traffic is also backed up all the way back to J1 (Hermiston Gait), with traffic on the A8 Glasgow Road also queueing past Edinburgh Airport as traffic diverts away from the problems.

All traffic is currently being forced up to the M9 J1 (Newbridge) where it can turn around on the roundabout and head back onto the M8 Westbound.

There are also delays on the A720 Edinburgh city bypass as the long wait for the M8 to reopen continues.
