Multi million transformation of Weston-super-Mare town centre gets underway

Work on a £4.45 million project to transform Weston-super-Mare town centre has begun.

The work, expected to take 11 months to complete, will see a raft of improvements including a new traffic layout in the centre and enhanced landscaping.

The changes will see all bus stops in the centre located at a ‘transport hub’ in Regent Street.

There will also be enhanced cycling and pedestrian links created.

The road layout in Alexandra Parade and Walliscote Road will also be changed to reduce the volume of traffic in the town centre.

New loading accesses will be created at Regent Street between 6pm and 10am, with loading bays on the outskirts of the pedestrian zone available at all times of the day.

It is hoped the measure will reduce the number of lorries visiting the town centre during the day.

More than 30 new trees will also be planted across the town centre area.
