MUMBAI: In fewer than two years since its reversal of the multi-member system for municipal corporations and councils, the state cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to reintroduce it.
The cabinet approved the proposal to have a minimum of two to a maximum of four councillors for a ward. The system does not apply to the BMC.
In December 2019, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government had moved an amendment to the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and reversed the system, saying it caused conflicts between elected representatives of a ward, created confusion and affected development works.
