Multi-emergency search launched to trace two missing canoers at Scots loch

A major search operation has been launched to trace two missing canoers who have vanished from a Scots loch.

A multi-emergency response has been drafted into the ongoing mission at Loch Etive in Argyll and Bute.

RNLI crews, HM Coastguard and police are currently in attendance as a search helicopter hovers above the area.

Officers were alerted to the incident at 10.55am today after receiving a report of concern for a man and a woman.

The Daily Record has approached RNLI for comment.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.55am on Monday, 16 May, police were called to a report of concern for a man and a woman in an open canoe on Loch Etive.

"A thorough search was carried out with no trace of anyone in the area and has now been stood down.

"If any further information is received then officers will act upon it."
