Mulayam Singh Yadav's ashes immersed in Ganga at Haridwar

KANPUR: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav immersed the ashes of his father and party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav at Neeldhara Namami Gange Chandi Ghat in Haridwar.

All the family members, including Akhilesh, his wife Dimple, their three children, Shivpal, Rajpal, his wife Prem Lata, Abhayram, Dharmendra, Tej Pratap and Aditya Yadav, took a dip in the Ganga after the immersion.

Family members wished for salvation of the SP patron amidst chants by the priest, Shailesh Mohan, who conducted the final rituals.

On Monday, all the members reached Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun in a chartered flight from Saifai, Etawah. They then reached Haridwar by road. Along with the Yadav family, many SP leaders and supporters also reached Haridwar.

As decided earlier, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s ashes were not immersed at Har Ki Pauri, but at the Namami Gange Ghat in Haridwar. This was done because the Ganga’s flow has been stopped to clean silt in the river, following which there is not much water at Har Ki Pauri.

After the immersion, Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, Shivpal Yadav, Ram Gopal Yadav and other relatives returned.

Mulayam Singh Yadav had passed away after a prolonged illness at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on October 10. He was cremated in his native village, Saifai, on October 11. On October 12, the family members took part in his ‘Shuddhi Sanskar’ ceremony. A ‘shanti path’ and ‘havan’ will be held in Saifai on October 21.
