Muirkirk teenager's delight as he scores winner for dad who is his gaffer

Lennon Wight-Muirhead had extra reason to celebrate his winner for Muirkirk at Yoker Athletic last Saturday – his dad is his gaffer!

The Burnside Park men maintained the only 100 per cent league record in Ayrshire with a 1-0 victory at Holm Park.

Kevin Muirhead's new-look side are bang in form ahead of today's Ayrshire derby visit of Annbank United.

And Wight-Muirhead admits it was a special moment knocking off Yoker as Muirkirk set their sights on promotion from West League Two.

"It was an excellent feeling scoring and as soon as the ball left my foot I knew it was in," the winger told Ayrshire Live.

"We knew it would be a tough game but thankfully we managed to hold on towards the end of the second half and confidence is high.

"We fell short last season but the intensity has not dropped since the very first pre-season training session. Everyone is giving 110 per cent.

"It's a big game for us this weekend but we will focus on what we can do and hopefully we can get the job done."

Wight-Muirhead became one of Junior Football's youngest goalscorers when he netted at the age of just 15 for Newmains United, with Muirhead snr in charge of the North Lanarkshire side.

But the teenager, who wants to make a big impact, insists he doesn't get any special treatment despite his dad's prominent role on the management team.

He added: "He tells me that he will treat me like a normal player. I want to prove myself all the time.

"I enjoy playing Juniors. I have learned a lot from players around me and if the opportunity ever came up to play senior, that would be great."
