Muireann O'Connell opens up about being 'an extremely hairy woman'

The Six O’Clock Show’s Muireann O’Connell is a proud hair woman and she’s encouraging other women to embrace their natural hair and refute the pressures to look like a “prepubescent” child.

The conversation started when the Virgin Media star shared an image of her jewellery with her Instagram followers, and proudly owned her pictured arm hair.

Speaking on her Instagram stories Monday evening, Muireann clarified that while she felt self conscious about her hair in her 20s, she's learned to embrace it.

"So the hair thing. I am an extremely hairy woman, I got it everywhere and there are some people in this world who have very little,” she said.

"But certainly, in my 20s it was something I cared about a whole lot more because society told us that women shouldn't have hair anywhere on their body's except their heads and we should all look like prepubescent children, which is just ridiculous.

"Now if you have gone off and you’ve gotten all the laser in the world and you're happy as Larry fair play.

"I did it before and I might go back and do it again."

An outraged Muireann said some women responded to her post to say they have been told by beauticians or boyfriends to remove their natural hair, RSVP Live reports.

"But there is women getting in contact with me going, 'Yeah beauticians have told me before that I should wax my arms'.

"No! What? If you don't want to do it don't do it and if you do, fair play.

"If you’ve got a partner in your life who is going on and on about your hair, to look a certain way, as though you don't naturally grow hair, jump off Jack. They're not the right person for you. Tell them to cop on.

“That's my bit on hair. Hi hairy women! Fun isn’t it?"
