Muireann O’Connell on the lookout for new radio gig after double award nomination

Former Today FM presenter Muireann O’Connell appears to be on the lookout for a new radio gig after being nominated for two IMRO Radio Awards.

The station announced in July that she was being replaced by Dancing with the Stars winner Mairead Ronan.

It then emerged that Muireann, who co-presents the Six O'Clock Show on Virgin Media, had increased her listenership with 96,000 people tuning in to her weekday lunchtime slot.

And now she has been nominated for the Music and Entertainment Presenter of the Year and the General Music Programme categories.

Reacting to the news she tweeted: “Incredibly grateful for both my @IMRORadio nominations.

“Now, would any station have an ol’ spare seat?”

Muireann previously said she was embarrassed to have been given the boot from Today FM.

In a tweet reacting to the news back in July, she said: “I have been fired from Today FM it’s all good.

“Like, it’s embarrassing and I’m a bit sad but I love almost everyone in that station and wish them all the best in the future.”

She also said her successor, Mariead Ronan will be great.
