Muhammad Ali's grandson and Evander Holyfield's son to fight on same card

Nico Ali Walsh and Evan Holyfield will feature on the same fight card as they bid to follow in their famous relative's formidable footsteps.

Ali's grandson Walsh defeated Jordan Weeks in his professional debut last month, while Holyfield has won all seven of his professional bouts to date since his debut in 2019.

And the two young stars will feature on the undercard of Jamel Herring's super-featherweight world title defence against Shakur Stevenson on October 23.

The card will take place in Las Vegas, with Ali Walsh set to face Olympic silver medalist Duke Ragan who is also undefeated with Holyfield's opponent yet to be confirmed.

With Ali Walsh fighting at middleweight (160lb) and Holyfield at super-welterweight (154lb), a future clash between the two is a possibility.

The former has already addressed his excitement at fighting under his grandfather's name, after he wore his famous white shorts during his professional debut.

“It was powerful. I tried them on one time, the day of the weigh-in, I moved around in them, and they looked nice and felt nice,” he said.

“I felt ready to rock. But then I really got the feeling for them in the dressing room before the fight. I put them on, and it was like, ‘Uh oh, now it’s on.’ It was like putting knight’s armour on.”

"I wasn’t planning on wearing them to begin with, throughout this whole journey, it was about creating a name for myself.

Ali Walsh also revealed his grandfather's "surprising" encouragement when he mentioned following his career path.

“I wanted to get pushback from him, but he didn’t give it to me,” Walsh told Forbes.

“All he did was encourage me. Every time I asked him, not wanting him to encourage me, I was hoping he would say, ‘You know what, Nico. You’re smart, don’t go into boxing.’ If he would have said that, I wouldn’t have gone into boxing."
