Aussie musician MUDRAT has taken aim at the ABC and its treatment of former employee Antoinette Lattouf during a performance on the broadcaster’s own youth station, Triple J.

MUDRAT delivered the searing takedown during an appearance on Triple J’s rap segment BARS, which spotlights established and emerging rappers across Australia.

During a nearly three-minute freestyle — which has clocked nearly 100,000 Instagram views at the time of writing — the Melbourne punk and hip-hop artist let loose on both the radio station itself and the ABC in light of Lattouf’s unlawful termination, which arose after she shared a social media post opposing Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

“Shoutout Antoinette Lattouf, my career’s in a noose, but I’ll take a blacklist over censoring the booth,” MUDRAT said, referencing the journalist’s claims she was silenced by the ABC as a result of her pro-Palestine stance.

“There’s blood on these walls for the lies that it spewed,” MUDRAT added while performing in the Triple J booth.

The rapper later made reference to a radio protest led by Triple J back in 1990, when it famously played the N.W.A song “Express Yourself” on replay for 24 hours in defiance of the hip-hop group’s broader ban across Australian radio stations.

“You stood against censorship, stood against executives,” MUDRAT said of the protest, “but where do you stand now Triple J?”

MUDRAT went on to address the ABC’s coverage of Gaza more broadly, mentioning the death toll of the humanitarian crisis and accusing the broadcaster of “trying out both sides” and “burying the truth” in its coverage the conflict.

“It’s too late to be vetted as the news because the ABC has been burying the truth,” MUDRAT said.

“The ball’s in your court,” he added, presumably addressing the ABC, “Israel’s watching, choose wisely”.

Towards the end of the freestyle, MUDRAT led a chant of “Israel is committing genocide” and repeatedly called to “free Palestine”.

After delivering the track, MUDRAT explained to BARS host A.GIRL that his intention was to “be honest at all times even when that’s uncomfortable”.

“Being in this building today, understanding the complexities of the last few years, it was important that we spoke to truth,” he added.

MUDRAT said what’s happening in Gaza “is not a conflict … it’s a genocide”.

The musician’s impactful performance comes just days after the ABC was ordered to pay $150,000 to Lattouf after the Federal Court ruled the broadcaster had breached the Fair Work Act by dismissing the journalist because of her political opinion.

The ruling brought to an end a long-running legal battle that began in 2023, when Lattouf was sacked as the host of ABC Radio Sydney’s Mornings program just three days after starting the role.

Reacting to MUDRAT’s performance, Lattouf said she was “blown away” while resharing the clip on her Instagram Stories on Thursday.
