Much-loved Muswell Hill library reopening announced: Everything you need to know

Haringey residents will be thrilled to hear that Muswell Hill Library is finally reopening its doors following a significant refurbishment of the building.

The much-loved library space, which also previously served as a popular community space for the residents of West Haringey, has been closed since 2023 following a string of delays that prolonged the refurbishment process.

According to Haringey Council, the library will finally open its doors to the public from September 29 onwards, unlocking essential access to those who want to read and learn within the community.

Speaking about the upcoming re-opening, Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Councillor Emily Arkell, said: “I’m very much looking forward to seeing Muswell Hill Library re-open later this month.”

“We love and value our libraries as much as our residents do and cannot wait for them to explore and experience this brand, new community hub in a few weeks’ time.”

She added: “Upon re-opening following its major refurbishment, our residents will benefit from more accessible and improved facilities courtesy of a reconfigured floorplan, with interior redecoration providing new bespoke lighting and furniture too. This provision will also be bolstered by a new accessible toilet and lift on-site, as well as a designated area for local young people to learn and study.

“Thank you to the community for your patience while the refurbishments were completed. We’re excited to welcome everyone back.”

The refurbishment, which forms part of Haringey Council’s £4.9m investment into the borough's nine libraries, was due to be completed in 2024 but was rocked by considerable delays.

Residents are also being encouraged to share their feedback with the council to help shape what they want to see from their local libraries in the future.
