Much loved mum dies just months after getting married

A daughter paid tribute to her 'wonderful' mum - a 'well-known and well-loved' member of her community - who passed away this month.

Linda Fitzpatrick, from Widnes, died on January 5 at the age of 63, having been diagnosed with a heart condition in 2017.

Her daughter Amy Nuttie told the ECHO her mother had suffered from a number of problems with her heart, in particular issues with its valves, and received treatment in Broadgreen, Whiston and St Helens hospitals.

Amy said her mum was due to go for a triple heart bypass operation in 2020, but this was delayed due to the covid pandemic.

Though the rescheduled appointment was meant to take place this year, Linda passed away peacefully on January 5 before she was able to attend.

Amy said: "It was just getting back on track for her to be sorted for that, but unfortunately it didn’t happen”.

Her mother was a well-known and beloved member of her community. Linda had worked in Widnes’ pubs and in catering. She was said to be a pillar of the town’s community.

Amy paid tribute, saying: “She was just really well-known and well-loved.”

“As kids growing up, our place was always the place to be for my friends, my sister’s friends, my brother’s friends.

“She was always helping people even though she was in poor health herself.

“She’d always be helping the older people clean their houses or going to the shops for someone. She always found the time for people.”

Despite her illness, Linda married Amy’s dad in September.

They had previously been in a relationship but had split up for around 30 years before rekindling their relationship.

They were married at Runcorn Registry Office in September, before friends and family joined them at Amy's sister's house for the reception.

Now, the family is inviting those who wish to attend to Linda's funeral, which will take place at 2pm on February 11 at Widnes Crematorium, before people head to Widnes Cricket Club on Beaconsfield Road afterwards.

In a Facebook post, which received a wave of tributes to Linda and well-wishes to the family, Amy said: “Mum was much loved and well known in the local community and we invite anyone that wishes to attend.

"Family flowers only with anyone wanting to make donations please think about making them to The British Heart Foundation or Guidedogs for the blind (a charity that Mum supported)."
