Much-loved Liverpool venue confirms it won't reopen on July 4

This week Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave the go-ahead for pubs and restaurants to reopen from July 4.

Many Liverpool bars are delighted at the news, having been closed since March due to coronavirus.

But today, Cavern Club Liverpool announced it will not be reopening on July 4, after deciding it’s ‘too soon’ to welcome customers back.

In an announcement on Instagram, it said the decision on when to reopen will be reviewed weekly, adding that the reintroduction of live music appears ‘a long way off’.

Mathew Street venues The Cavern Club, The Cavern Pub and The Cavern Festival restaurant will all remain closed until further notice, and Magical Mystery Tours are currently not running.

International Beatleweek has also been cancelled for 2020.

Cavern Club Liverpool's full statement read: “After a board meeting of Cavern City Tours Ltd yesterday it was unanimously decided by the Directors present that none of the core four businesses will re open on July 4th

“With customer safety and staff well - being the company’s main priority, it was felt it was too soon to re open our doors. We will be reviewing the situation on a weekly basis and will make appropriate announcements as soon as it is relevant.

“The reintroduction of live music appears to be a long way off and we look forward to once again being able to provide a world class experience for people from all over the world.”
