Much loved Italian restaurant closes for good after 16 years in the city

One of Liverpool's longest standing restaurants has closed its doors for good after trying everything to save the business.

Olive Restaurant, based on Castle Street, opened back in 2004, named then as Olive Press.

Living Ventures who owned the site has appointed administrators Duff & Phelps who will be leading the process which also affects its Blackhouse and Newgate restaurants based across Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow.

Speaking to The Caterer, Scott Grimbleby, managing director of the businesses, said: "We have explored every avenue possible to try to save the business, however we have been left with no choice but to take this incredibly difficult decision now.

"We are working with all our teams to try and support them as best we can through this time. The administrators will be seeking to find a buyer for the businesses."

Olive Press, as it was then called, opened in 2004 by celebrity chef Paul Heathcote and was aimed at the family and lunch time business market rather than top end fine dining.

Living ventures previously looked after Red Door, Gusto, The Alchemist, The Living Room and more much-loved Liverpool venues.

Its current brands include Australasia, Sunset and Grand Pacific but these are understood to be unaffected.
